History
Dave Boytis has over 30 years experience in the autobody industry. His father was a body and frame technician, so Dave started young. In the early 90’s, Dave heard about a technique called Paintless Dent Removal. It was a rapidly growing industry in the Midwest as an excellent repair for hail damage. As Dave knew the value of a car’s original paint, this type of repair really interested him. In 1995, Dave attended an in-depth training facility to learn the technique, and in 1996, opened The Dent Expert.

Right away, Dave found that most cars that had dings also had scratches, so he trained his son Dave Boytis II in chip and scratch repair. The two of them got busier and busier, and in 2000, Dave’s wife Kaylee joined the team as the manager/estimator. Kaylee herself has a 20-year career in the automotive repair industry, including several years as a bodyshop manager/estimator. Kaylee’s mother JoAnne also helps out part-time as an assistant. What kind of work do they do?

• Paintless Dent Removal (PDR) is a process in which dings and dents are massaged out from the back side of the panel. Dave has over 150 different tools he uses to accomplish this. The size of the dent is not as important as the depth is. In determining whether your dent is a good candidate for PDR, here’s what counts: paint not, or only slightly, damaged and the metal not stretched or creased (dent is shallow). But don’t worry if you are not comfortable making this determination—The Dent Expert is mobile and they will be glad to come to you and provide a FREE estimate. PDR costs anywhere from one-tenth to one-half of the price of traditional body and paint work, depending on the size and location of the dent.

• Chip and Scratch Repair really comes in handy if you have a vehicle with a painted bumper. They don’t just do bumpers, though. Dave II’s van is thoroughly equipped with a paint matching system and everything else needed to do minor paint repairs at your location. They can repair and paint mirrors, moldings, and more. Dave II will expertly match the color and finish of your car. He can also polish the vehicle to remove fine scratches. The Dent Expert offers repair and painting of certain types of wheels, too. The repairs that they do are generally less than half of the price that a bodyshop would charge.

• Windshield Repair can be a real money saver. When a rock flies up and cracks your windshield, often it will spread rapidly until your windshield is ruined. If you get the small star or bulls-eye fixed before it has a chance to spread, you will pay a fraction of the price of a new windshield. Often the repair will be almost invisible as well, improving your view of the road.

• Paint Protection Film is the newest service offered by The Dent Expert. 3M makes a clear film, which, after being precision cut and applied, is almost invisible. It won’t shrink, yellow, crack or peel, and is removable without affecting your paint. Applied to the front end of your car, truck or motorcycle, it acts like a bra in protecting the paint from rock chips. While it can be more expensive than a bra, it provides superior protection without the hassles that a car bra can bring. The film can also be applied anywhere on the car that gets scratched frequently, such as near the fuel cap, under the door handles, on top of the back bumper, or on the door sills.

How do you get your free estimate?
Call 805-968-4800 to schedule an appointment for estimates or repairs. The estimate appointment takes 10-15 minutes, and Kaylee will give you a firm quote in writing. If you’re not sure if your damage is something that they can take care of, they will be glad to come by and discuss it with you. Also, if another Paintless Dent Removal Company has told you that your dent is not a good candidate for PDR, call The Dent Expert. Dave regularly takes on dents that the “other guys” have turned down. The Dent Expert services the areas from Goleta through Carpinteria.
